In the remote, forested highlands of Aceh, Takengon, on the misty shores of Lake Laut Tawar, coffee grows as wild and bold as the landscape itself. Here, in the spiritual heart of northern Sumatra, members of Koperasi Baitul Qiradh Baburrayyan (KBQB) cultivate traditional varietals like Tim Tim, Typica, Ateng, Onan Ganjang, and Jember at altitudes of 1,100 to 1,600 meters—a rugged terroir that shapes every bean with depth and power.
What makes this coffee truly distinct is the Giling Basah process—known internationally as wet-hulling. Unique to Indonesia, this method involves removing the parchment layer from the bean while still damp, then sun-drying it in the open air. The result? A cup with signature earthiness, low acidity, and a long, lingering finish unlike any other.
This full-bodied origin is syrupy and rich, with bold layers of dark chocolate, dried fruit, and deep, earthy tones. There’s a comforting weight to each sip—medium acidity to keep it alive, and a resonance that stays with you long after the last drop.
This is Sumatra—untamed, grounding, and unapologetically bold.
